Positioning for Local Demand

Posted Posted in News

If you are heading to the snow, please drop into one of our clients at Berridale where Michelle will get all your gear ready at a great price.  Just mention Datatrax.

Snow season has brought much relief and small smiles have started to appear for our operators in the Snowy Mountains and for those NSW residents making the most of it.    Operators have tried to make up the loss of Annual passess and reduced numbers by nudging up the prices a bit, and managing to keep that social distance in place.   Yes Queues have snaked up the from the chair lift but in the end queue times have actually been less.   My daughter and friends reported good coverage and there is plenty more fresh POWDER for us to look forward to as those of us in Sydney and Southern NSW. So get your boards and skis waxed up for some mental health.

Here is a link to the latest information on the Health Direct Australian Government website titled ‘Travel advice and restrictions related to COVID-19’

Whilst I know a lot of the grey nomads took off the opposite direction as soon as that QLD border opened up, speaking of which my parents are just back at Port Stephens now after spending up big on the inland route up into Queensland and back down Northern NSW.

Tourism Australia.  “Don’t underestimate the ramp up” – Bob East TA Chair.

There is a massive opportunity now to get everything ready for the large volume of expected domestic travellers.  Bob East Tourism Australia Chair couldn’t be more right with saying that “Australians will be mindful of social distancing but the pent up demand is there.   How can you steer your messaging effectively for local domestic marketing, certainly at Datatrax with 25 years experience and excellent Domestic Marketing platforms we are very well placed to do that for you.

If you have not had the chance register for the Tourism Australia Webinars, they are a great weekly resource to keep focused on the latest developments for our industry. Domestic opportunities will open up first of course and there is some great advice to maximise your share.

Touchscreens on Space-X Crew Dragon

While our own travel restrictions are about to be reduced further I thought it was news worthy to mention the Space-X launch to the International space station this month.

A feature of the new cockpit, that has Elon Musk’s fingerprints all over it, is the addition of Touchscreens to make the job of interstellar travel that little bit easier.

Twenty five years ago I introduced touchscreens into tourism in Australia and have grown the business from there Internationally, and while by no means an Elon Musk, I can be proud of introducing the simplest and easiest way for Tourists and Travellers to find out about your business. The use of touch is the simplest and direct connection and probably our first instinct to develop inside the womb!  It is therefore the goto when you want to communicate no matter if that is the best things to do and see, or where to stay, eat or shop, or perhaps if it is how to dock with the Space Station and stay on mission target.  It was a life dream for myself to take my father and son to see the last space shuttle launch in 2011 in Florida and it has been a long time to see another vehicle further mankind’s quest.

Travel Bans Easing

Clients in different states are starting to see some progress on restrictions being lifted.   It was great to see restaurants able to reopen in ACT/NSW with upto 10 social distancing, while NT, WA are well ahead of that as well.   There are no border restrictions in ACT and NSW, and in SA you are free to travel anywhere in the State.  With travel in Queensland to further ease on June 12 to 250km trips and caravanning and camping permitted.  While in Victoria recreational road trips are also permitted. It will take a while to get back to “new normal” and we appreciate your loyalty and keeping an eye to the very near future which is looking increasingly positive that further domestic tourism travel restrictions will be removed.  I thank everyone for hanging in there and working with us.   Drive Markets will be in demand, and some of those favourite Aussie locations will be on the Bucket List.

Looking forward to a bumper domestic travel season

Many of our clients in different states are starting to see some progress on restrictions being lifted.   It was a great pleasure to go for a coffee with upto 10 people here, and it looks like NT, WA are really moving forward as well.   There is no doubt that it will take a while to get back to “new normal” and we appreciate your loyalty and keeping an eye to the very near future which is looking increasingly positive that domestic tourism travel restrictions will be removed.  I thank everyone for hanging in there and working with us.

Stay positive, keep promoting what we have and believe that tourists will rush for fresh air when restrictions are lifted.  The With Love from (A)us, campaign is certainly a great initiative.

There is a massive opportunity now and by the time you read this I would expect that at least SA and WA having recorded very few new cases in the community will relax travel restrictions.  I am sure the east coast will not be far behind.  In the meantime,  we continue to improve our systems and do network maintenance work to set us up for the next phase.   Pip Harrison Tourism Australia CEO said that the domestic market is 2/3rds of trade, however with such a large outbound market that will be constricted to Australia for some time can only be a huge benefit and increase those high spending tourist numbers.
